FOH and UNEP to strengthen Knowledge Management Strategy on Environment
With a burgeoning number of international treaties, rulings and decisions about the environment, from biodiversity to endangered species, climate change, and hazardous chemicals, there is a real need for greater coherence and coordination in the international environmental law field.
Friends of Humanity (FOH) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are collaborating to create an online environmental treaty web portal, to allow governments, non-governmental organizations and the global public to more easily understand and implement the decisions and rulings protecting our environment. Using state-of-the-art technology, the portal will provide an enabling environment for capturing, managing and sharing knowledge assets among 12 international Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs).
This unique project, bridging multiple UN agencies, for the first time will allow access in one place to the full array of international environmental law, enabling more coherent and mutually beneficial decisions.
The Small Scale Funding Agreement (SSFA) joint project between UNEP and FOH is led by Alonzo C. Addison and will begin late October 2010.
