Located in the heart of the Gangdise Shan Province of Tibet, the Tashidom village is 20 km from the Everest Base Camp and 10 km from the Rongbuk Monastery.
The construction of a school for this remote village began in 1999, and was completed in 2000. It allows about 30 pupils from 7 different grades to have a primary education, with the help of a single teacher. In 2007 the first group of children graduated from this school and is now able to attend high school in Lhasa.
In 2007 the school was supplied by Friends of Humanity with $5'000 worth of solar panels, so that evening classes for parents could be organised.
The school being in need of a second teacher, it was planned to build in 2008 another 2 or 3 class rooms, as well as a room for the second teacher to live in. Friends of Humanity is really proud of the accomplishments at the Tashidom school. Unfortunately access to Tibet were difficult these two past years and Friends of Humanity had to give up this project. But we hope to be able to continue to support this project as soon as possible.
